FAQ's

The aim of this page is to provide visitors with a single place to get answers to the most commonly asked questions about coaching.

01   What happens next if I decide to use your services?

You will be sent a simple coaching contract and agreement for you to read and sign. NOTE: If someone else is paying for your coaching sessions, they will also need to review and sign the coaching contract. You will then be sent an initial questionnaire to fill out before your first session so that your coach can start getting to know you. It’s okay if you don’t have all the answers, just answer as much as you can, so as your coach has a basic understanding of who you are, what you want, and where you want to go before the first session. You can send voice notes instead of writing if you prefer. Coaching sessions typically last for 60 minutes, but shorter sessions are available if needed. We’ll tailor the sessions to support your learning needs. During each session, we’ll discuss your progress since our last meeting and set goals for the next session

02   Is coaching really just counselling?

Coaching is not therapy or counseling. It’s a partnership between the coach and client to achieve the client’s goals through action-oriented strategies. While there is some overlap with therapy and counseling, which focus on resolving mental, emotional, or behavioral difficulties, coaching focuses on helping clients make positive changes in their lives which could include; reaching their potential, promoting their self-development growth, improving their efficiency and productivity at work, overcoming inhibitions and resolving unhelpful habits using a variety of suitable theories on human behaviour.

03   Do you work by any professional standards?

As a Chartered Member of Institute of Personnel Development (MCIPD), and a registered member of the Career Development Institute (RCDI) there is a solid commitment to abide by both the CIPD’s Code of Professional Conduct and the CDI's Code of Ethics in all aspects of my work with clients. More information on these documents can be found here: CIPD: https://www.cipd.co.uk/about/what-we-do/professional-standards/code CDI: http://www.thecdi.net/Code-of-Ethics

04   How do you keep your skills up to date?

Continual Professional Development is hugely important. Without continuing to learn and grow it is easy to become stagnant. Professionally, I keep up to date through my memberships with the CIPD and RCDI to receive the latest industry updates. Yearly career coaching training and webinars are attened and run by a whole host of different organisations who are experts in their field. Networking also allows for learning from other professionals. This all helps to keep me up-to-date with the latest recruitment practices and diversity and inclusion issues.

05   What if coaching is not for me and I've signed up to one of your packages?

If a client finds that coaching is not working for them, the sessions may be ended by joint agreement and any unused sessions can be put on hold or refunded if you are at the start of your coaching package.  The ground rules for the coaching relationship (including refunds) is set out in the Coaching Contract which will have been agreed and signed before the coaching starts so that both parties know their obligations. It is a simple agreement giving both parties peace of mind and protection.

06   My son/daughter is really shy about meeting new people and I'm worried about how they might cope.

Over the years, many clients have receved coaching who were very nervous about meeting new people or with being in new situations. Overcoming this fear is going to be important for successfully obtaining and maintaining a job and coaching provides a really safe way to overcome this fear. If the coachee prefers, they may have someone present at the beginning of the first session or until they feel comfortable, which usually happens quickly. A joint first session can also provide peace of mind that coaching sessions with me will be a positive experience.

07   How often will I have coaching?

The frequency of the coaching sessions can vary according to your needs and the timescales you are working too. It’s most common to have one session each week and this is recommended for the start of the coaching relationship. However this could be changed to a couple of sessions per month if you are progressing well towards your goals. If required, please ask about how you can be offered support between sessions, such as quick texts or emails to keep you motivated and on-track.

08   Can you find me a job/ apprenticeship/ internship/ traineeship?

We have a strong active network and are happy to use it and advocate on behalf of clients. While it cannot be guaranteed that we will be able to find you the perfect position, we will be able to move you much closer to your employment goals. It could be that you are supported with the setting up some work experiences or that we speak to companies or colleges on your behalf to see if they might be able to offer traineeships, apprenticeships, or internships. The goal is to give you the right tools and support to feel empowered and confident enough to find or make opportunities for yourself. However, where necessary, there will be help to guide you through situations that may require more support or direction.
